APPROACH & BIO
Ms. Kou’s education at LMU has given her a strong foundation in integrating and using art processes to provide psychotherapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults and families. The training prepared Ms. Kou to become a practicing marital and family therapist skilled at integrating art processes with a family systems orientation. She has worked in psychiatric hospitals with adults, in residential group homes with abused and neglected children, and in an out-patient agency.
Ms. Kou strongly believes art therapy is an effective and powerful way to break through defenses toward therapy. Art therapy can be a particularly effective modality to overcome negative attitudes and beliefs toward therapy. Particularly with children, art therapy allows the expression of feelings and problems which children may have no words to express and which they have never been able to bring forward to others.

APPROACH & BIO
Ken is a clinical psychologist committed to helping individuals, couples and families with different relational and emotional issues. He uses Gottman Method Therapy and other approaches, such as psychodynamic and CBT, depending on the clients’ needs.
Apart from his role as a clinical psychologist, Ken found the platform Your Relationship Clinic on social media in 2013. He created an interactive channel to, on a pro bono basis, discuss with and offer emotional support to traditional Chinese-speaking people about their relational issues with partners, family members, friends, colleagues and pets.
In 2019, with the outburst of public emotion since early June because of the social unrest in Hong Kong, he has extended and prioritized his service to providing emotional support to Hong Kong residents. He has specialized in supporting those who have been traumatized by witnessing distressing events and the many emotional wounds that continue after them. Ken was named one of the “Top 100 Healthcare Leaders” by the International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare (IFAH) in 2019 for his voluntary services provided via social media.
Ken believes that communication is not only about meeting expectations and needs but also a channel for expressing genuine emotions through establishing a secure place for each other. This is the key to developing a healthy relationship not limited to couples but also among persons with different roles in the society.

Amber received her undergraduate degrees in both Psychology (Honors) and Spanish (Honors) from University of California, Davis and her Master’s in Educational Psychology from Ball State University in Indiana. She went on to become an educator and worked in schools in California, Buenos Aires, Argentina and most recently in Hong Kong. During her time in the classroom, Amber became an expert in working with children with different learning needs which affords her a unique perspective when assessing children.
Amber passionately believes that all children are capable of reaching their potential and should have access to high quality education. Assessment plays an integral role in this, helping children with learning differences to receive the intervention needed in order to unlock their potential. Amber believes that Educational Assessments should highlight students’ strengths, and be practical and support-driven. Assessments are aimed at creating meaningful and purpose driven interventions in order to provide the best support possible for children and young adults. Furthermore, early intervention is one of the keys to helping learners be successful.
With the right accommodations and modifications, all children can become confident, successful learners. Amber believes in the importance of fostering a growth mindset in children as well as parents.
